Anesvad Foundation is a Spanish NGO that works to control, eliminate and eradicate skin-related Neglected Tropical Diseases (skin NTDs) in Sub-Saharan Africa from an integrated approach. Established in 1968 in Bilbao, Anesvad is committed to the 'Right to Health' of people living in the most vulnerable conditions in Sub-Saharan Africa. Its scope of intervention focuses on skin NTDs such as Buruli ulcer, yaws, lymphatic filariasis and leprosy. The Foundation currently works in communities across West Africa, precisely Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo and Benin.

Anesvad fights against these NTDs using and promoting an Integrated Intervention Strategy in partnership with strategic field actors such as Ministries of Health, universities and research centres and in line with Country Health Policies and WHO mandate. In addition, gender equity, disability prevention and inclusion, environmental protection and intercultural respect are cross-cutting issues of its in-field interventions, as well as the Social Determinants of Health such as WASH, nutrition and education.

The LRI is very pleased that Anesvad Foundation joined the LRI as Partner with effect from 16 November 2020.  The contribution of Anesvad Foundation is a stimulus to our objective to support high-quality research and their expertise with a broad range of skin- related NTDs is of significant added value to the international network and work field in which the LRI operates. Welcome to the Leprosy Research Initiative.
